As a budding author, I stepped out on faith pulling in Ecaterina Leansceno, to produce watercolor paintings to accompany the adventures of "Black Bear." I have always loved bears. It may be one of my totems and definetly one of my nick names. My grandfather would often take my grandmother and I on Sunday drives to the country side where we would fish or have lunch. My parents, as well, took me on trips to ski, play in the ocean and camp in the Mendicino & Yosemite Forests. I live my life as an adventure and that, with my love of bears, is what is enlivened in "The Happiest Bear." It is a story about a Bear who travels around the world seeking the happiest bear. As she travels she learns spiritual truths about happiness.
I have always loved reading. The Encyclopedia Britanica that sold door to door in the 1950's was my friend. Spending summers at my grandmother's home, I would go on adventures to Germany, Paris, Africa etc. through reading and looking at the pictures. I would read about Noble Peace Prize Winners and the particulars of each of the United States. Reading is why I am an author. Reading is why I am an adventurer. Reading is why I am a Photographer.
As a veteran middle school teacher I have decades of experience crafting materials to engage and inspire young people. I attended San Francisco State University and University of San Diego, earning my Bachelor of Arts in Black Studies and Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I went directly to a middle school in need of teachers and have taught mostly sixth grade my entire career. My specialities are making connections in topics and across subjects and expeditionary learning. The San Francisco Bay Area is diverse in multiples of ways. There I extended my classroom to museums of Egypt, Science, Technology, Astronomy, the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Mountains. A few expeditionary trips took students to see phenomena like Pillow Basalt, evidence of Plate Tectonics, the Getty Museum and the Museum of Tolerance.
The cover photograph is an example of the nature scapes that I draw my inspiration and imaginative story lines from. I spend time outdoors and at the ocean as often as possible. The peace and beauty of nature and animals fascinate and inspire me. Photography is another way I Iet this feeling of big, bold, beautiful energy express itself.
